Progymnosperms
Progymnosperms
were plants which propagated by means of spores (like ferns) but had wooden
stems, like the flowering plants which appeared about 75 million years later.
Progymnosperms first appeared in the middle of the Devonian Period (about 375 million years ago). Some grew to be tall trees.
Progymnosperms were probably the ancestors of seed plants.
