Belemnoids

Belemnoids were molluscs which descended from small, straight nautiloids in the Carboniferous Period (about 350 million years ago).

Belemnoids were torpedo-shaped animals whose body was covered by a hard shell. They had ten arms, two of which had suckers, the rest had rows of hooks that could cling to slippery fish.

Belemnoids reached their greatest abundance in the Cretaceous Period (14 to 66.4 million years ago). they became in the Triassic Period (about 45 million years ago). Squids may be descendants of the belemnoids.
